Home Grown Garlic
Posted by Alan Singleton on
I plant my garlic early so I can harvest in time to replant the gardens with spring crops. A good winter crop, saves buying at $40 a kilo and it keeps! All it needs is plenty of compost and some organic soil conditioner. Gardeners tend to avoid it because it takes six months to grow but in my gardens it is just a matter of plant and forgot during the winter months. This lot will keep us going for a while.

A couple of photos from my garden this morning. A lot of gardeners are interested in saving water. These veggies are grown on 100% recycled laundry water (apparently it doesn't rain in Toowoomba any more). Broadbeans, Lettuce and Silverbeet

David has just moved in to his new house in Brisbane. Part of the planning was these three large gardens. They look great and will provide lots of veggies with minimum effort.
Worms Anyone

There is nothing more exciting to write about than earth worms. Did you know they have three to five hearts, no lungs, both male and female organs and can produce 1500 babies in 12 months?Your 1/4 acre plot could be home to 300,000 worms and your garden needs them. They break down organic matter into plant friendly nutrients and move them around the garden. Their movement also helps aerate and loosen the soil.Worried about your lack of worms? My 30 litre bags of ‘wormpost’ will solve that little problem (if your local).

Hi Alan,I bought a couple of extra large garden beds off you earlier in the year and they seem really good so cheers (I attached a couple of photos of them set up). I was thinking of getting my folks a couple of your jumbo beds to set up at their place a couple of hours south of Perth. They have had a couple of problems with growing veggies down there. One has been things drying out when they head away and the other has been invasive tree roots taking over the garden. I think your set up would work...
